Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about ultrasonic welder selection, pricing, process comparison, sampling, customization and after-sales service.
What is an ultrasonic welding machine and how does it work?
An ultrasonic welding machine joins plastic or metal parts using high-frequency mechanical vibration (ultrasound), with no glue, screws, or external heat required.
It works like this: a generator converts electrical energy into a high-frequency signal, a transducer turns it into mechanical vibration, and a horn delivers that vibration to the contact surfaces of the parts. Friction generates heat instantly at the joint, completing a weld in seconds — strong, clean, and fast.

What factors affect the price of an ultrasonic welding machine?
There is no fixed price for ultrasonic welding machines — it mainly depends on power output, machine type (pneumatic or servo-driven), whether a custom horn is needed, the level of automation, and your output requirements.
As a rule of thumb, high-power servo models, custom tooling, and automated lines cost more than standard pneumatic machines. The real saving comes from correct sizing: too small and it won't weld your parts, too large and you overpay.

What is the difference between servo-driven and pneumatic ultrasonic welding machines?
The key difference is the pressing drive: servo models use a servo motor, while standard models use an air cylinder. With a servo drive, welding pressure, speed, and position can be precisely set, digitally stored, and repeated.
Servo ultrasonic welders deliver better weld consistency, traceable parameters, and gentler handling of precision and cosmetic parts — ideal for automotive, medical, and electronics applications. Pneumatic models are simpler and more cost-effective for high-volume production of standard plastic parts.
We manufacture both types — see our plastic welding equipment range.
What are common ultrasonic welding defects and how are they solved?
The three most common defects are weak welds, flash (excess material squeeze-out), and surface marking. Most are caused by welding parameters, horn condition, or part and joint design — not necessarily by the machine itself.
How to fix them: for weak welds, check that energy and pressure are sufficient and that the horn fits the part well; flash usually means too much energy or a poor joint design — reduce amplitude and improve the energy director; surface marks can be reduced with lower pressure, cushioning, or re-machining the horn face.

Which plastics can an ultrasonic plastic welding machine weld?
Ultrasonic plastic welders work best with rigid amorphous plastics such as ABS, PS, PC, PMMA (acrylic), and SAN — weld strength can approach that of the base material.
Semi-crystalline plastics like PP, PE, nylon (PA), and POM can also be welded, but they need higher energy and specially designed joint geometry, and the resulting strength is relatively lower. Halogen-containing plastics (such as PVC) are generally not recommended for ultrasonic welding.

What is an ultrasonic metal welding machine (wire harness welder) used for?
An ultrasonic metal welding machine creates solid-state bonds between metals through high-frequency frictional vibration — no filler material, no high temperatures — making it ideal for conductive materials like copper and aluminum.
Typical applications include automotive wire harness terminal welding (copper wire to terminals), battery tab welding, motor lead welding, and multi-layer copper/aluminum foil stacking, all with excellent conductivity and low contact resistance.
See our metal welding equipment range for related models.
Why is ultrasonic metal welding used for EV battery tab welding?
Because ultrasonic metal welding is a low-temperature, solid-state process — it won't burn tab coatings or separators, and it produces no spatter that could contaminate cells. That is the key reason laser and resistance welding can't fully replace it.
It also handles multi-layer stacking of copper and aluminum foils, producing welds with low internal resistance and excellent conductivity for high-current battery applications, with short cycle times suited to cell production lines.
We supply dedicated ultrasonic metal welders for the battery industry, with free sample testing available.
How do I choose between a servo hot-melt machine, a hot plate welder, and an ultrasonic welder?
The rule of thumb is simple: if ultrasonic welding can do the job, choose it first — it's fast, clean, and economical. Turn to hot-melt or hot plate processes only when ultrasonic can't handle the part.
In practice: ultrasonic suits small-to-medium, regularly shaped plastic parts; servo hot-melt (heat staking) machines suit parts with metal inserts or rivet-forming needs; hot plate welders suit large, irregular, or large-area joints beyond ultrasonic energy limits, such as bumpers and fuel tanks.

Which products are hot riveting (heat staking) machines suitable for?
Hot riveting machines are used to stake plastic-to-plastic or plastic-to-metal assemblies. Typical products include automotive interior parts (door panels, dashboards), lamps, motor brush holders, and PCB mounting posts.
The process heats a plastic stud and forms it into a rivet head — strong and neat. Our servo heat staking machines precisely control temperature, pressure, and displacement for consistent results on every stake point.

What are the advantages of an ultrasonic food cutting machine?
Ultrasonic food cutters slice with high-frequency vibration, producing smooth cuts with no sticking and no crumbs — easily handling cakes, cheese, chocolate, and frozen foods that challenge conventional blades.
Benefits include clean, attractive cut surfaces, less product waste, no frequent blade-cleaning stops, and stable continuous operation — ideal for food factories and central kitchens doing high-volume portioning.

Do you offer free sample welding tests?
Yes. Send your part samples to our factory in Jiading, Shanghai, and we will weld them on suitable machines and return the welded samples for your evaluation — free of charge.
The test doubles as process validation: we record the working parameters for your future mass production. If your parts genuinely don't suit the process, we'll tell you honestly rather than push a sale.

Do you support custom machines and automated production lines?
Yes. As a machine manufacturer, we build custom equipment to your parts and output requirements — including multi-station rotary machines, auto loading/unloading, in-line inspection, and robot integration.
From standalone machines to semi- and fully automatic lines, we provide one-stop service covering design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. We always verify the process with sample tests before building, so the equipment works from day one.
Bring your parts for a factory visit, or call +86 15618952290 to discuss your needs.
What warranty and after-sales service do you provide?
Our machines come with a full-machine warranty — free repairs for non-artificial failures during the warranty period. Core components such as generators and transducers are covered too, with the exact warranty term stated in the contract.
After-sales support includes installation, commissioning, and operator training on delivery; remote guidance by phone or video for process or fault issues; on-site engineer visits when needed; and stocked spare wear parts for prompt supply.

How should I choose between Japanese ultrasonic welders (e.g. Seidensha) and Chinese-made machines?
Objectively, Japanese brands (such as Seidensha) entered the ultrasonic field early and are known for stability and consistency — but they cost more, take longer to deliver, and after-sales response is relatively slower. Chinese manufacturers have caught up over the years and now deliver comparable weld quality in mainstream applications, with better value, shorter lead times, and faster service.
Our advice: if budget allows and you want maximum proven stability without time pressure, Japanese machines are a safe choice; if you value cost-effectiveness, customization, or quick support, domestic machines are often the more practical option. We maintain technical cooperation with Japan's Seidensha and Taiwan's Minghe Ultrasonics, so our process expertise is well grounded.
The best approach is a side-by-side sample test with your own parts — let the welds speak. Call +86 15618952290 to arrange one.
